Richie Tallent

Chief Instructor and Camp Director


Richie has 37 years of umpiring experience and training. He started his umpiring career in 1983 and then attended the Harry Wendelstedt Umpire School in 1984. He umpired two years in the Minor League system and then moved onto college baseball.

With a total of 36 years in College Baseball his knowledge and experiences are extensive. He has worked in many conferences as follows:

  • South Eastern Conference (SEC) for 23 years
  • Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) for 19 years
  • Southern Conference (SoCon) for 15 years
  • Big South Conference for 15 years
  • American Athletic Conference (AAC) for 5 years
  • Atlantic Sun Conference for 2 years

Richie has also umpired NCAA Regionals at both the Division I and Division II Levels and he also umpired the NCAA Division II World Series.

Richie is the owner of the Atlantic Coast Umpire's Association.

Richie resides in Lexington, South Carolina.

Barry Chambers

Assistant Chief Instructor and Assistant Camp Director


Barry has 25 years of umpiring experience and training. He started his umpiring career back in 1994 doing High School Baseball. He quickly worked his way into the College Level.

With a total of 20 years in College Baseball his knowledge and experiences are extensive. He has attended several camps and training sessions. Barry has worked in many conferences as follows:

  • South Eastern Conference (SEC) for 12 years
  • Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) for 12 years
  • Southern Conference (SoCon) for 19 years
  • Big South Conference for 19 years
  • Peach Belt Conference (PBC) for 12 years

Barry's most impressive umpiring experience happened this past year (2018) and in 2015 when he was privileged and honored to work the NCAA Division I College World Series in Omaha. In addition to this huge achievement and accomplishment Barry has worked five Division I NCAA Super Regionals and 11 Division I NCAA Regionals.

Barry has also umpired six NCAA Division II Regionals and in 2004 he also umpired the NCAA Division II World Series.

Barry has also has umpired Tournaments in the South Eastern Conference (SEC); Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC); Southern Conference (SoCon); Big South Conference and the Peach Belt Conference.

Barry is a member of the Atlantic Coast Umpires Association and the Capitol City Umpires Association.

Barry resides in Little Mountain, South Carolina.

John Puma

Camp Instructor


John has 30 years of umpiring experience and training. He started his umpiring career back in 1989 doing Little League Baseball. He moved into umpiring High School Baseball and soon worked his way into the College Level.

With a total of 19 years in College Baseball his knowledge and experiences are extensive. He has attended several camps and training sessions. John has worked in many conferences as follows:

  • South Eastern Conference (SEC) Non-Conference Staff for 3 years
  • Big South Conference for 8 years
  • Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) for 8 years
  • Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) for 4 years
  • Atlantic Sun Conference for 2 years
  • Peach Belt Conference (PBC) for 9 years
  • South Atlantic Conference (SAC) for 11 years
  • Carolina Conference for 5 years
  • Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference for 1 year

John has also worked NCAA Division II Regionals in 2012 and 2013. He was crew chief for the 2017 Peach Belt Conference Tournament. John also umpired the 2017 and 2018 South Carolina American Legion State Tournament.

John also umpired the 17th Maccabiah Games (Jewish/Israeli Olympics) in Petah Tikva, Israel back in July 2005. Most recently he has umpired the Valley League and the Florida Collegiate League.

John is a Coordinator and Assignor for American Legion Baseball and a member of the Atlantic Coast Umpires Association.

John resides in Lexington, South Carolina.

Todd Drake

Camp Instructor


Todd has 29 years of umpiring experience and training. He started his umpiring career in 1989 doing Pony League Baseball. After learning the ins and outs of umpiring he decided he wanted to attend the Harry Wendelstedt Umpire School and did so in 2002. Todd then entered into the College ranks at a remarkable pace.

With a total of 17 years in College Baseball his knowledge and experiences are extensive. He has attended several camps and training sessions. Todd has worked in many conferences as follows:

  • South Eastern Conference (SEC) Non-Conference for 3 years
  • Southern Conference (SoCon) for 11 years
  • Big South Conference for 11 years
  • Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) for 4 years
  • Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) for 3 years
  • Atlantic Sun Conference for 2 years
  • Peach Belt Conference (PBC) for 11 years
  • South Atlantic Conference (SAC) for 10 years
  • Carolina Conference for 5 years

Todd has also worked an impressive five NCAA Division II Regionals. He worked his first Regional in 2005 in Lakeland, Florida. His other Regionals include 2008 in Mt. Olive, North Carolina, 2010 in Florence, South Carolina, 2011 in Mt. Olive, North Carolina and 2014 in Salisbury, North Carolina.

Todd has also worked numerous American Legion games over the years. He also has umpired in the prestigious Valley Baseball League.

He is a member of the South Coast Umpires Association (SCUA) and the Atlantic Coast Umpires Association (ACUA).

Todd resides in Spartanburg, South Carolina.

Benny Pigg

Camp Instructor


Benny has 19 years of umpiring experience and training. He started his umpiring career back in 2000 when he attended the Harry Wendelstedt Professional Umpire School. He moved into umpiring High School Baseball and quickly worked his way up into Division I College baseball.

With a total of 9 years in College Baseball his knowledge and experiences are extensive. He has attended several camps and training sessions. Benny has worked in many conferences as follows:

  • South Eastern Conference (SEC) Non-Conference Staff for 3 years
  • Atlantic Sun Conference (A-SUN) for 2 year
  • Big South Conference for 5 years
  • Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) for 9 years
  • Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) for 5 years
  • Peach Belt Conference (PBC) for 5 years
  • Northeast Conference (NEC) for 1 year
  • South Atlantic Conference (SAC) for 5 years
  • Carolina Conference for 5 years

Benny has umpired as a Minor League Reserve Umpire for the South Atlantic League (SAL) from 2000-2006. Additionally, Benny umpired the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Tournament in 2014.

Benny is a member of the Atlantic Coast Umpire's Association (ACUA).

Benny resides in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.

Cody Clark

Camp Instructor


Cody has seven years of umpiring experience and training. He started his umpiring career back in 2012 doing High School and Showcase Baseball. Cody moved his way extremely fast and was working baseball at the College Level in 2013.

Cody then attended The MiLB Umpire Training Academy in 2014. He umpired his first season in the Minor League system in the Appalachian League. Cody worked both the Division and Championship Series for the Appalachian League. In 2015, he was promoted to the South Atlantic League where he spent the duration of the season.

Cody was promoted to the Advanced “A” Carolina League in 2016 and spent the 2017 and 2018 seasons in the “AA” classification Southern League.

With a total of seven years in College and Minor League Baseball his knowledge and experiences are impressive. He has attended several camps and training sessions. Cody is also a former instructor of the MiLB Umpire Training Academy.

Cody earned his first Division I staff assignment in 2016. He is now on his third year on the South Eastern Conference (SEC) Non-Conference Staff.

Cody is also a member of the Atlantic Coast Umpires Association and the South Atlantic Umpires Association (SAU).

Cody resides in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.

Matt Brown

Camp Instructor


Matt has six years of umpiring experience and training. He started his umpiring career back in 2013 doing recreational and college club baseball.

With a total of five years in College and Minor League Baseball his knowledge and experiences are impressive. He has attended several camps and training sessions. He also instructed at the Minor League Baseball Umpire Academy in 2017 and 2018.

Matt has worked on the South Eastern Conference (SEC) Non-Conference Staff for the past two years. The SEC is where Matt earned his first Division I staff assignment in 2017.

Matt attended The Wendelstedt Umpire School in 2014. After completion he began umpiring at The Cal Ripken Experience. In 2016 Matt went back to umpire school, this time at the Minor League Umpire Training Academy. He umpired his first season in the Minor League system in the Appalachian League. Matt worked the 2017 season in the South Atlantic League and was promoted to Carolina League for the 2018 season.

Matt's work earned him the opportunity to umpire the Appalachian and South Atlantic League Championship Series, and South Atlantic and Carolina League All-Star Game.

Matt is a member of the Atlantic Coast Umpire's Association (ACUA) and the South Atlantic Umpires Association.

Matt resides in Conway, South Carolina.

Zach Neff

Camp Instructor


Zach has six years of umpiring experience and training. He started his umpiring career back in 2013 doing High School and Showcase Baseball. Zach moved his way relatively fast and soon was working baseball at the College Level.

Zach attended The Umpire School in 2015. He has just recently completed his second year of umpiring in the Gulf Coast League, where he had the honor and privilege of umpiring the playoffs. With a total of five years in College and Minor League Baseball his knowledge and experiences are impressive. He has attended several camps and training sessions.

Zach has earned his first Division I staff assignment.  He is now on his third year on the South Eastern Conference (SEC) Non-Conference Staff.

Zach is also a member of the Atlantic Coast Umpires Association and the South Atlantic Umpires Association (SAU).

Zach resides in Conway, South Carolina.
